We are pleased to announce that HPCVL has greatly increased the number of available Fluent licenses. The new license agreement covers 50 program runs plus 200 parallel processes, which is more than twice the previous count.
Some additional limitations apply:
- We currently have a system-wide limitation that allows only 2 jobs per user to be run simultaneously, parallel or serial, Fluent or otherwise.
- To distribute the available license seats somewhat fairly, a limit of 24 processes per job is enforced by a license-counting script.
- A small number of license seats are reserved for interactive usage, for instance for pre- and post processing. Note that program runs of this type are restricted to non-production jobs, and should not exceed 3 hours of duration and 4 processes. Production jobs including script-driven job sequences **must** be run through Grid Engine, and will be terminated without notice if found on the login node or outside of GE control.
We will "switch" to the new license at noon on Friday, July 18. While this process is unlikely to affect running Fluent jobs, there is always a small chance of a disruption.
Together with the upcoming new hardware (see earlier announcement) this should provide our Fluent users with substantially more computing power.
