HPCVL provides resources to many researchers external to the four member institutions. The graph below shows the growth of external usage at the central site. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) have funded a portion of the resources at that site and the usage is represented as the percent of the usage of that equipment obtained through the CFI/OIT funded budget. This is the percent of the CFI/OIT funded 240 CPU Sun Fire cluster.

The total number of installed CPUs in the Sun Fire cluster is 408 with the additional CPUs being funded through the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF) and Sun Microsystems. The total disk storage capacity is 11.7TB of T3 StorEdge.
